Ratings - Studded Leather Cuirass
Rating: | Price/Power (3/5) Price is right on point, but the power is slipping when compared to the damage dealt by modern weapons. Countermeasures (3/5) It is a decent if a little underwhelming in its defense. Good common icons targeted. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades I always prefer weapons with a percentage blocker in them like the Roxtons Trusty Bowie Knife or The Mystical Tablet- but these don't even come close to the value of this armor, or just one with slightly more icons like the Sophies Magic Hat. But in general, defense items are less useful than they used to be. Other Points Final Thoughts Honestly Icon inflation has impacted attacking items so much that multiuse non-percentage blockers are a much harder sell, especially in a world where 1P battle opponents can use single use weapons and abilities infinitely. Why risk not using attacking weapons when there is a decent chance they'll just freeze you for three turns in a row? Rated on June 1, 2024 |
Rating: | Studded Leather Cuirass is one of many newer shields available on the Shop Wizard. Due to its popularity and inflation, this weapon may sometimes cost upwards of 60k. If found at the right time, however, a new battler can pick one of these up for only 20k or so. Studded Leather Cuirass provides up to 11 icons of potential defense. This amount is not amazing, but it is fairly reasonable considering the price. Although Studded Leather Cuirass cannot offer sturdy resistance against any particular icon type, this weapon does offer modest defense against several common icon types: Air, Earth, Light, and Physical. Studded Leather Cuirass will assist in countering opposing Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer, Throwing Cutlass, Rainbow Scroll, Scroll of Ultranova, Scroll of the Wise, and Scroll of Knowledge among others. Studded Leather Cuirass will struggle to stop any weapon on its own; this weapon heavily relies on combos. Studded Leather Cuirass will be more likely to maximize its defense by blocking parts of two opposing offensive weapons. Also, since Studded Leather Cuirass does not offer particularly powerful coverage on its own, pairing this weapon with a Dual Duty like Spyder Stone Necklace, Cloudy Wand of Storms, or Golden Compass can offer more resilience. Although Studded Leather Cuirass is frequently recommended, many solid shields are available on the Shop Wizard. These shields definitely deserve a look, especially when Studded Leather Cuirass is at an inflated price. Shields like Patched Magic Hat, Blue Draping Cloak, Leaf Shield, and Wanderers Cloak should not be overlooked.... ▼ Read More ▼ |
Rating: Rating History ▼ | Price/power (4/5): At the time of writing, this is going for slightly less than the Shiny Shoal Shell Shield. Not a bad deal if you ask me, though defense against Earth is slightly lacking. Tactical (4/5): As one of the affordable alternatives to those infamous full armours, this is definitely worth using. It counters Psellias Fighting Fan, Stone Club, and Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer. Certain 9-iconers (e.g. Rainbow Scroll, Golden Compass) will be reduced to 3 icons. Notably, it also cuts into 13-iconers such as Brynns Legendary Sword of Wraith Smiting and Altador Cup Throwing Star. Light defense is hard to come by in an all-purpose shield, though it isn't particularly necessary if you're also using a Parasol of Unfortunate Demise. Earth defense is a bit lacking, so it's best to have something else handy for that. Bonus (1/1): An all-species full armour that's easily affordable is always welcome. Closing remarks: Other full armour-like shields include Shiny Shoal Shell Shield, Sophies Magic Hat, Royal Blue Cape, Blue Draping Cloak, and Wanderers Cloak. The latter two are best for 2P.
