Ratings - Leaf Shield
Rating: | Price/Power (3/5) While still rather pricey it is kept down by the fact it is still commonly given out. Countermeasures (5/5) This is basically the staple defense of bulk icon shields at this level. Some items such as the Wanderers Cloak may offer a better spread defense, but bulk this is very decent indeed. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades Hubrid Nox Memorial Shield is the upgrade, while the downgrades are numerous. There are many 9 icon shields that do this icon combination Other Points Final Thoughts I hope they come out with more of this power level of shields, like they did with the Kiko Skull Pirate Hat. Rating: | Value 3/3: 13 full icons of defense in the buyable range is excellent. Tactical 5/6: It's time to be honest. When 7-iconers were unbuyable and earth, water, and physical icons were found everywhere, the leaf shield was a real show-stopper. Now, 11-icon weapons are buyable and the potential to defend 13 just isn't what it used to be. Especially when the Scroll of Knowledge sports only 2 water + 2 earth icons, and the Scroll of Ultranova cuts straight through this shield untouched. It's not bad against the kings of low-level dual duty, taking reasonable chunks out of the scarab ring and Oversized Maractite Rune Sword with some defense left over. Consider also the fact that many low tier weapons still pack some earth/water/physical (and often 2 out of those three) and you find you've got a shield that's pretty effective against a bit of most weapons your opponents are likely to have. Other 0/1: Doesn't have the proportionally big stopping potential it once did, but still useful. Conclusion: A few years ago this would have earned a 6/6 tactical rating. The drop from 6/6 to 5/6 may not look big but it's a very significant drop. Should you still own one? Yes, absolutely. It's a great shield. You might have to think more carefully about how you use it though. Your opponent has options that can get past it, so consider keeping another shield with different icon coverage in your set. This alone is not enough anymore. Rated on September 7, 2013 |
Rating: | Leaf Shield is one of those weapons that never seems to get old; this shield has withstood the test of time. 13 total icons of defense is impressive for a weapon that can be found on the Shop Wizard. What makes this weapon really shine is that it provides substantial coverage over 2 icons types (5 each of Water and Earth) and a decent 3 icons of Physical defense. All three of these icons are common in lower level battling, and often come together, as in the case of Throwing Cutlass, Essence of Esophagor, Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer, Ice Club, and Geraptiku Attack Leaf. In terms of maximum blocking potential, Leaf Shield and Patched Magic Hat are the best options found on the Shop Wiz. Royal Blue Cape and Sophies Magic Hat are noteworthy, but cost significantly more on the Trading Post. After all of these years, Leaf Shield is still a great choice as a first shield. I wish it was a bit cheaper than 20k-30k, but you really can't go wrong with starting out with this shield. Watch out for weapons like Ramtors Spellbook and Energy Blaster that can bust this shield, but for every weapon like them, there are several other popular weapons that get mangled by this good old Shield. :) Rated on December 7, 2012 |
