This rating is to intentionally tank the average score for this beginner weapon, as it is now either outclassed by or more expensive than the current Beginner Recommended Constant Attackers. This weapon should not be considered unless it becomes cheaper than the weapons listed there. This rating does not take into account any use for this weapon in 2P leagues.

Overview: Don't like saying "Makeshift Ships Hammer", but want the same offensive icon types and 3 icons of defense in your set? Then look no further than the much-more-easy-to-say Blunted Qasalan Gladius Sword.

The Good: Earth defense is very useful in L97 and 500k tournaments. There are TONS of cheap weapons and 8-12 icon weapons that have some earth in them, so you'll almost always come into a scenario where this will be effective.

The Bad: At only 8 icons, it's a little weaker than most would enter a tournament with. 9-10 icons seems to be the sweet spot for dual duty weaponry, so this just slightly falls short.

The Ugly Truth: As an opening move in low-league tournaments, this would probably be rather helpful. In general, I'd be comfortable with main weapons that hit a bit harder, and then using this as a backup.

Price/Power (4/5)
This item is very similar to the Makeshift Ships Hammer in a lot of ways however is a lot cheaper. It is a dual duty but still powerful enough to not be hated on for it... Overall a pretty decent item from this standpoint.

Countermeasures (3/5)
While not as broadreaching as physical, the earth blocking allows you to at least partly deal with several popular items at this level such as the Throwing Cutlass, Frozen Water Daggers and Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer... It barely comes out on top against a Altadorian Swordbreaker too which is at least something to talk about. As for your attack being blocked, several items will cut back on this rather substantially including the Studded Leather Cuirass, Wanderers Cloak and Buckled Leather Tunic.

Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades
The Makeshift Ships Hammer, Frozen Water Daggers or if you are willing to step away from dual duties the Scroll of Ultranova would all work.

Why has no one thought to sharpen this?

I feel as though Blunted Qasalan Gladius Sword goes a bit under the radar. This weapon can be found on the Shop Wizard for a price of about 25k, making it cheaper and stronger than Cloudy Wand of Storms.

Blunted Qasalan Gladius Sword can be thought of as a Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer that has sacrificed one of its Earth icons so that it may block three opposing Earth icons. Earth icons are very common at the level of battling where Blunted Qasalan Gladius Sword would be used. Blunted Qasalan Gladius Sword can beat or match Geraptiku Attack Leaf, Barbat Throwing Star, Scroll of the Earth, Hanso Charisma Charm, Altadorian Swordbreaker, Essence of Esophagor, Stocking Full of Coal, Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer, Throwing Cutlass... getting the picture? Earth icons are everywhere, and Blunted Qasalan Gladius Sword offers an affordable way to get a bit of Earth defense while maintaining a reasonable attack. For the new, defensive-minded battler, Blunted Qasalan Gladius Sword is a nice alternative/upgrade to Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer.
