Ratings - Stocking Full of Coal
Rating: | Price/power (4/5): A bit pricey, although dual duties that offer light defense have always been more expensive. This is currently the most powerful of these weapons, at least at this level. Tactical (4/5): Defense is nice, on par with Jhudoras Cursed Sword and the Sword of the Dead. Attacking power is unprecedented in a mid-level light defending dual duty. However, the icons are easy to block (Shiny Shoal Shell Shield and Studded Leather Cuirass both do the trick) and also very common due to the Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer being sold at ridiculously low prices. This stocking is about as powerful as the extremely expensive Air Faerie Crown, whose attack is much harder to block. Bonus (1/1): Clearly the bad kids who were given coal found a great use for it. Closing remarks: This stocking is well worth the NP, though it could still be cheaper. If you don't mind sacrificing your attack, you can get the Parasol of Unfortunate Demise instead, which blocks all incoming light. Rated on September 30, 2013 |
Rating: | Overview: If the bad kids' Christmas gift can be used a weapon, isn't it exactly what they would have wanted anyways? The Stocking is a solid dual duty weapon, and it performs well if you can find a weapon to block. The Good: If you liked Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer, you'll love this, since it's the same 9 icons of offense but with an added 5 icons of defense, which is nothing to scoff at. My last price check yielded a cost of around 350k, which is a nice bargain. For the cheap cost, it sits only 1 icon behind the Stone Foam Finger, so it your opponents tend to yield that weapon, you can almost even the odds for cheap. The Bad: In L97 or 500k limit tournaments you'll seldom see a good weapon to use this against, save for maybe the Scroll of Knowledge, for which there are cheaper defenses. If your opponent is wise, they'll simply put away their weapons that deal light for the remainder of the battle, meaning you have about one turn of usefulness with the stocking. The Ugly Truth: Situationally, this dual duty has some real potential, but the pool of weapons to use it against is too small to give this a higher rating. I imagine if TNT comes out with some more lightweight light-dealing weapons, the viability of the stocking, as well as its price, will go up. Rated on September 29, 2013 |
