20% chance of breaking for the battle. Special thanks to cliodne for lending this item for testing! |
Ratings - Pirate Captains Hat
Rating: | Price/Power (1/5) The power is slightly higher blocking than the Pretty Negg Shield but weaker than the cheaper Mystical Tablet. This staple is still good if you already own it, but honestly I feel its time in the light is over. Countermeasures (4/5) This is still incredibly powerful- but that 20% breaking chance becomes all the more apparent in this modern era of battling when its alternatives just... don't break. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades I would even consider the Pretty Negg Shield to be better than this; while it does defend slightly less- the fact it doesn't break and als deals damage to the opponent? Damn. Then with super cheap items like The Mystical Tablet existing the question becomes could you use this slot better. Other Points Final Thoughts If you have to put my head on a pike, please at least make it have little decorative cabbages carved into the wood. Rated on January 27, 2024 |
Rating: | Overview: The Pirate Captains Hat is actually surprisingly good. I think with the pirate theme I would assume it to block fire, water, and physical, but the fire-earth-light combo is pretty nifty. The Good: I'm not sure about math, but this thing blocks 200% to 300% of everything. Wait.. Anyways, as a double full blocker with some added fire, the Pirate Captains Hat is definitely a safe shield. The hat actually gives players without peas a chance to compete against those big weapons. Attack Pea, Seasonal Attack Pea, and Grapes of Wrath are all but destroyed. Players with the ever-popular Ghostkerbomb will have to use strategy when bringing it out because the Pirate Captains Hat will block a decent portion and possibly carve into the other weapons. It even takes a nice chunk out of the new Maractite Bomb. It does this all for a price a few mil cheaper than the other Hidden Tower Shields. The Bad: Something I really like to see in my set is dependability. I don't like having my gameplan thrown out the window because a weapon won't cooperate. The Pirate Captains Hat throws a bit of unpredictability into the mix. If it breaks, suddenly your opponent, who pretty much had nothing but an Attack Pea and defense, looks like the biggest offensive superpower you've ever faced. This happened because your only earth defense decided to break in the middle of the battle. The Ugly Truth: If this was multi-use, I'd probably be giving it a perfect 10, but the unpredictability of the Pirate Captains Hat requires a bit of a demerit, so I am deeming it a solid 8. Realistically it's somewhere between an 8... ▼ Read More ▼ |
Rating: | Power: 5/5 Blocking 2 icon types completely is something you'd usually only find in high-end cove/retired HT items like Alien Aisha Scrambler or Rod of Dark Nova (with the exception of the single use Slippery Floor Potion) - getting it for such a cheap price in the HT is simply a steal - even more so with the additional 5 icons fire defense. Obviously that comes with a downside: a 20% chance of breaking for the battle. However this is most likely the only semi-fragile item that really is worth considering. Counters: 2/3 So we get to fully block earth and light while still blocking some fire. Unfortunately this sounds somewhat better than it actuall is as you'll have to take a big bunch out of both your opponent's weapon with this somewhat limited coverage. Yet, this takes a huge chunk out of the somewhat popular Sword of Reif/Sword of Thare/Sword of Thigl + Ghostkerbomb combo which makes it a real game changer if you see it coming. On the high end you can literally shred Attack Pea and Seasonal Attack Pea into pieces, cut Grapes of Wrath down to a managable 4 fire icons and even turn Super Attack Pea into a not quite so frightening 12 air icons, so you'll have a quite valuable asset there. Uniqueness: 1/1 The only easily affordable dual full blocker and really useful semi-fragile weapon, quite a nice thing. Bonus: 1/1 Pirates, ho! Rated on August 21, 2013 |
Rating: | Pirate Captains Hat is one of the few, if not only Semi-Fragile weapons appropriate for both 1-Player AND 2-Player use. Pirate Captains Hat (PCH) offers full protection against Light and Earth icons, as well as 5 icons of Fire defense, which is simply superb. Of course, to counterbalance the immense defensive ability of Pirate Captains Hat this item does have the chance of breaking for the battle. The chance of breaking is not exceptionally high, but still occurs frequently enough that it cannot be relied on as a Multiple Use weapon. I once heard from a battler that loved the defense of this weapon, but hated that it could break, so they equipped two just in case. I do not recommend this since equipment space is limited and valuable, but PCH is still best viewed in a slightly pessimistic manner. Think of PCH as a Single Use tactical weapon like Slippery Floor Potion, and if it does not break after the first use, view it as a bonus to use it again in the same battle. Pirate Captains Hat is highly effective against hard hitting 1-Player opponents like the Lab Ray Scientist, Mootix Warrior, Giant Chomby, and the Space Faerie. It also provides highly effective defense against many high end 2-Player weapons: Seasonal Attack Pea, Attack Pea, Faerie Slingshot, Ghostkerbomb, Sword of Thare, and Sword of Thigl. What sets Pirate Captains Hat apart from the more expensive Hidden Tower shields like Faerie Tabard is the double coverage it provides. PCHs ability to fully block two icon types gives it an edge in 2-Player over Hidden Tower shields that can only fully block a single icon type. The popular Ghostkerbomb... ▼ Read More ▼ |
