Ratings - Ylanas Blaster
Rating: | Price/Power (2/5) Let's face it- it is still powerful. It is. But this item was also the first active example of icon inflation on the site and has since been beaten in the inflation game. This isn't to say the item is bad if you own it, but if you don't perhaps you could go for one of the more modern OP weapons which are cheaper. Countermeasures (2/5) Fire based attacks are still as good as they always are- but this weapon has reached a point where that isn't considered as much of a boon. There are many suitable counters for this weapon in 2 player and losing the competitive edge which was the ability to out-damage your opponent through sheer icon numbers are long gone. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades There are many alternatives today- Yooyu Knuckle Duster, Molten Boulder and Bowling Ball of Lost Cities to name a few. Other Points (2 Reduction) I do love this item, I always have and I always will. However, until its average gets pulled down a little more from its glory days it likely isn't worth giving its full mark to. Final Thoughts Never imagined I would see the day when I would give this amazing item such a low rating. Even if it is just to bring down other ratings, it feels a little depressing. Rating: | At the time of its release, Ylanas Blaster revolutionized intermediate-level battling. The first in a line of ~13-icon event prizes, Ylanas Blaster made intermediate-level weaponry stronger and more affordable to a wider group of battlers. In the present day, Ylanas Blaster is still a fantastic value at a current price of roughly 1M, give or take 100k. This weapon is not quite 13 icons, it is really 12.667 icons since the Earth icons are fractional. Still, this weapon has served as the first million-neopoint weapon for many growing battlers. The icon distribution on Ylanas Blaster is scattered, making it most useful in 1-Player battling. The strong point of Ylanas Blaster is the 5 Fire icons, but 1-Player is ultimately more about raw power than icon types. In terms of raw power, Ylanas Power is a fantastic option, serving as one of the typical upgrade choices from Scroll of Knowledge for casual 1P use. When it comes to 2-Player, Ylanas Blaster is not as desirable. Scarab Ring can almost come out even against a Ylanas Blaster. Sophies Magic Hat, Wanderers Cloak, and Solar Flare Shield can also weaken Ylanas Blaster's attack. The popular Dual Duty Rusty Pitchfork will also come out ahead. When it comes to 2-Player, Bow of Destiny, Wand of Reality, and Altador Cup Throwing Star are more desirable options thanks to their less spread-out icon types. All three of these alternatives cost slightly more than Ylanas Blaster. For casual 1-Player battlers, Ylanas Blaster is an excellent upgrade to Scroll of Knowledge. Dr. Sloths Personal Bath Buddy would be the next step up. Rated on July 24, 2013 |
Rating: | Price/power (5/5): When this first came out in 2008, it was going for about 700k-800k. These days it sells for around 1 million NP, possibly more. Sure, it's fractional, but aside from Brynns Legendary Sword of Wraith Smiting and Altador Cup Throwing Star, the closest alternatives are the NQII 13-iconers, Wand of Reality and Bow of Destiny, both of which are much more expensive. Some people went as far as to say this "broke the Battledome". Tactical (3/5): While it does have enough raw power to overwhelm most shields, it's particularly weak to Sophies Magic Hat, which reduces it to 4 icons. Shiny Shoal Shell Shield and Wanderers Cloak both reduce it to 5 icons. The icon spread (4 different types) also makes it very easily to partially block, though few weapons at this level could truly beat it. Other (1/1): I'm a big fan of cheap and powerful weapons. Though icon inflation has gone too far with the 9-iconers (it's now possible to get some of them for 1000 NP), 1 million for 13-ish icons sounds about right to me. Closing remarks: Brynns Legendary Sword of Wraith Smiting and Altador Cup Throwing Star have helped stabilize the blaster's price, despite having been a plot prize from 2008. At some point, every battler will come into possession of at least one of these 3 weapons. Final score: 9/10 Rated on November 27, 2012 |
