Ratings - Blaze

Recommended for: Elite Battlers
Price at Time of Rating: 150m+ and fluctuating

This weapon was given out in 2019 as a prize for the Lyra and the Lost Heirloom event.

The context for this rating is that this weapon has skyrocketed in price due to plot speculation, while the alternative Illusens Staff has become very affordable due to being a recent event prize.

Strengths:
This is objectively a great multi-duty weapon, being able to dish out a decent amount of attack while defending against two icons and even being able to heal you multiple times throughout the battle when your HP gets low.

Alternatives:
The main reason why my rating for this is somewhat low is because Illusens Staff does almost all the same multi-duty functions, but better (if you don't mind the icon swaps). IStaff does more attack icons, fully defends dark while giving a whopping 75% reflection on light (with some quirks), and heals 20% (though at a slightly lower health threshold). And it's currently priced at under 20 million due to being an easy prize from the 2023 Faerie Festival event!

So unless money is not an issue for you and you specifically want the icon types of Blaze, then it just makes more sense at the moment to use IStaff instead.

Notes:
Since my rating is highly contingent on the price of Illusens Staff, it would change if Blaze ever became cheaper.

Price/Power (3/5)
I don't think there is really much to say here that hasn't already been said. The blaze offers an incredibly good deal despite its raising price tag.

Countermeasures (5/5)
It not only does bulk fire icons but then also offers a not insubstantial multiheal and multiblock. While water and darkness are not commonly used together- they do represent two very commonly represented icon types. Honestly- this is kinda crazy all things considered.

Alternatives, Upgrades or Downgrades
You could get an item which does more damage- you could get an item which does more multiheal and you could certainly get an item which has more blocking potential... Illusens Staff offers more attack, a better defense and more healing- and given its recent drop in price you may find one for not THAT much more expensive than this. Wand of the Dark Faerie is clearly better too from an attacking and healing standpoint even if it doesn't live up to the defense on numbers alone- but the price tag is starting to get a little more out there even with the drops.

Other Points

Final Thoughts
This could perhaps be the first time they have given out a mini-wand/staff level item as a plot reward. I am not sure what I think of this to be honest- but if it is the start of a new trend- well- the battledome will need a rather massive shakeup to compensate.

This weapon will only be rated for Regular 1P/2P use, since it doesn't have any niche or league use.

Price (1/3): Considering that Illusens Staff, its superior in most ways, is now considerably cheaper than this I can't really give this a perfect rating anymore.

Power (5/5): This weapon is insane. 10.6 to 16 attack icons is neither great nor terrible, though the fact that 10 of them are fire definitely does help. If you're looking for this weapon though, you aren't seeking it just for attack, so let's move on to the next points. 66.6...% dual blocking... That's unique to say the least. If this was full blocking or did 66.6...% reflecting I'd have given this a 10/10 against water and dark weapons, however, the third point is what makes this an amazing weapon. If your health is below 25%, then this will heal you for 16.66...%, or 1/6 of your health. If your pet has enough HP then you'll manage to live forever with this weapon, which makes this one of the few reliable "immortal" weapons, with the others being Illusens Staff and Wand of the Dark Faerie.

Uniqueness (2/2): Let's get this straight. There's a few weapons that do similar things to this one, but none do the exact same.
Illusens Staff does 3 more damage, heals for 3.34% more, and defends and reflects, however it has worse icon types and the reflection is convoluted and not as worth it. Because of the faerie festival however its price has plummeted and thus is much cheaper than this weapon.
Wand of the Dark Faerie does 10 to 13 more damage, heals for 8.34% more, and has reflection, but has worse icon types and only defends for 1 icon ...

I'm just really glad I didn't review this thing before we discovered the multiheal.

Power: Since this is one of a very small class of multiuse percentage-multihealing weapons that don't take up your healing slot, I think it's worth going over each "duty" this weapon does individually.

The raw attacking power of this thing is a little underwhelming. 10.6-16 icons is... alright. In terms of raw muscle, it's on par with the first few TWR items, like Corrosive Spear Wand, but in this day and age we've got Turned Tooth and Bowling Ball of Lost Cities, which will both outdamage this a majority of the time for a fraction of the price. On the plus side, 10 of those icons are fire, which are notoriously hard to block in 2P battles. To be honest, the attack is probably the most underwhelming part of this weapon, especially for one of its price point. If you're just Lens Flaring your opponent forever, you're not going to get that much value out of this.

The defense is very interesting. We've had items that block percentages of icons before: once-per-battle options like Downsize! and Thyoras Tear on one side, and multi-use weapons like Rod of Dark Nova and Alien Aisha Scrambler on the other. I can't remember any other items that block two-thirds of an icon type instead of 100% or 50%, but here we are. One-on-one, these defenses allow Blaze to destroy Sword of Skardsen and Kelpbeards Trident, and it will win against Wand of the Dark Faerie more often than not, though this is a bit more luck-dependent. Paired with a good shield, like Hubrid Nox Memorial Shield, it can operate as part of a powerful defensive c...
