Ratings - Varia is the Bomb
Rating: | Recommended for: Intermediate and Advanced Battlers Price at Time of Rating: 2m This weapon was released as a prize for the 2023 Lost Fragments event (a tie-in to the mobile game Faerie’s Hope), and could be redeemed for just one day’s worth of clicking around on a few crystal shards! Strengths: A 25-icon bomb, over 3 icon types, is super strong! Until you reach the point of adding elite-tier weapons to your arsenal, this bomb will serve well as your heavy hitter. Weaknesses: Unfortunately, TNT very quickly nerfed this by adding the “Limit one” soon after its release, but otherwise there’s not much bad about this! It was nice having 8 of these equipped for a day :) Alternatives: Ghostkerbomb is the most direct alternative, though it does variable damage with a slightly higher average of 25.5 icons. It’s also several times more expensive. If you can afford it though, you can actually equip both of these bombs to get a 46-55 icon hit in on your first turn! Maractite Bomb is a direct icon swap of Ghostkerbomb, but as of now, it is far too expensive to recommend. Notes: Due to being easy to obtain through the Lost Fragments event, there may be a very high supply of these out there, especially due to botters. The Lost Fragments prize shop is also still open at the moment, so more of these may be redeemed over time. Rated on December 13, 2023 |
Rating: | Price/Power (4/5) This is the level I would expect from a bomb in today's scene. Gone are the days of 15 icon muffins; this is much more powerful than most every standard weapon and removes the randomization of the double priced Ghostkerbomb. Because it was released in an event, chances are you may even have one of these rattling around in your SDB to begin with. Countermeasures (4/5) Fire and Light are generally good combos, physical can be easy to block but only if your opponent throws away a lot of attack, and has their timing right. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades I am not a big bomb person, so I will just say the Ghostkerbomb and leave it there for now. Other Points Final Thoughts Bombs do deserve a power bump, that's for sure. Rated on September 30, 2023 |
Rating: | I wanted to wait for the price of this thing to stabilize a bit more before reviewing it, but I definitely can't let this weapon's rating remain a 6. I think this weapon is the best bomb released in at least the last ten years, so long as we carefully exclude Thunder Sticks from that definition. Freezers, while often also technically bombs (once per battle weapons that do damage), don't feel very bomb-y. As of the time of writing, these bombs are going for around 2 million Neopoints - a huge discount compared to the less-consistent but roughly-equivalent Ghostkerbomb - for a mind-boggling 25 icons. In case you're not aware, that is actually still a lot of icons, even in 2023, especially now that Wand of the Dark Faerie is back up to prices of 200m and climbing. "Why do you need that kind of power? Isn't 16 icons enough?" I hear you saying. What if I said yes? It turns out that this item is so strong it forms the new cheapest way to deal at least 40 icons in one turn 100% of the time: one of these plus anything that will always do at least 15 icons (a Roxtons Trusty Bowie Knife, Void Blade, or even Lightning In A Bottle will do the trick). That's just enough power to knock out the Giant Space Fungus on Mighty in one shot when used with Lens Flare - the path of least resistance when it comes to your daily Nerkmid farming. This item has knocked an entire digit off the cheapest 40-icon turn's price tag: you can now have for around 2-3 million what used to require a Ghostkerbomb and a Fan of Swords that together cost at least 22 million! Not using Premium? This plus a Fan of Swords or Ghostkerbomb... ▼ Read More ▼ |
Rating: Rating History ▼ | eh... it is a more consistent Ghostkerbomb with different icons. Bombs are an odd weapon class in the current state of the Battledome. They are marginally better than the standard weapons being released, such as Blaze or Roxtons Trusty Bowie Knife, and actually produces less damage than Super Attack Pea. However, like all bombs, this is once per battle. To be honest, unless you are OHKO-ing 1p opponents with this, I would much rather be running something with more versatility in 1P than a bomb. It is ok for what it does. It is much more consistent and reliable for icon damage than the stalwart Ghostkerbomb, and this weapon being practically given away for free a few short weeks ago doesn't hurt. However, this weapon is in an awkward spot of not really having a home. Rated on April 12, 2023. Updated August 19, 2023 |
