Ratings - Thyoras Tear
Rating:

Initial look- Yet another well known, good looking battledome item. The original drawing for this was actually pretty plain but the redraws definitely added a significant amount of gorgeousness to it.

Defensive Power- 5/5- It literally blocks everything. Enough said. This is quite frankly one of the few weapons that belongs in almost every set. Really the only reasons you wouldn't have it is if A.) You can't afford it or B.) Your pet has thousands upon thousands of HP and, in battle, a once per battle item doesn't have the value it would otherwise have.

Counters- Outside of a lucky reflection, the only counter is not attacking at all on the turn this tear used. IF you can do that with a reasonable amount of accuracy, you're probably a real life clairvoyant and you might want to think about playing the lottery next.

Alternatives- There is only one 1:1 alternative to this, but it really doesn't matter seeing as you almost certainly will never get your hands on it. But, for inquiring minds, its mirror image alternative is the extremely rare Castle Defenders Shield. Now if you want a technical direct downgrade, the Thick Smoke Bomb or Downsize Power Plus are right for you; but really Downsize! is a better alternative to both.

Bonus- 0/1- There's no need to give the perfect blocker any bonus points. From a defensive standpoint it is the best, no exceptions**

Overall Rating- 10/10- This is the perfect defensive item for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, it blocks everything. This pretty gem is literally your last line of defense when all seems lost and you're one turn away from being obliterated. No...

Value 2/3: At 50+ million NP this once-per-battle weapon commands a steep price. For that amount of NP you could buy an excellent set of weapons, and train your pet's HP to such a high level that you wouldn't need to block massive damage because you could just absorb it. Still, considering what the weapon does and its rarity, the asking price is understandable.

Tactical 6/6: Blocks all damage, every time. Does it reliably and no other once-per-battle weapon functions the same way. Thick Smoke Bomb does the same thing, but if you have a T-tear equipped you can also equip a Thick Smoke Bomb and get 2 turns to strike without taking any damage.

Other 1/1: An excellent defensive item with myriad potential uses.

Power: 5/5
Even though there's the cheap single-use alternative Thick Smoke Bomb this OPB version of it is surprisingly cheap for such a powerful item.

Counters: 3/3
There's no way to counter a full block and it cannot be bypassed in the new dome with reflect-attacks, either. You do have to watch out for weapon-order if you use self-damaging reflectors (e.g. A Shovel, Jhudoras Wand, Illusens Staff), though.

Uniqueness: 1/1
The only once per battle full blocker out there.

Bonus: 1/1
While you can only equip one of them, you can still pair it with the already mentioned Thick Smoke Bomb for essentially 2 free turns. (Note that that's usually forbidden in tournaments, though.)

Price/Power (5/5)
This ability is unmatched in the battledome and provides defense from everything. What's not to like? Best used on a wave which the enemy uses a bomb or some other hard hitting weapon.

Countermeasures (4/5)
Normally this would be a clear 5/5, however due to the many ways to make sure a bomb hits on rounds other then the one you choose to use this one in I had to give it a slight down mark. Lens flare, freezing and using bombs in that turn, ect. Despite this, the Thyoras Tear remains an unrivaled staple in the battledome world.

Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades
The Downsize! is an amazing mini version of this weapon, for cheap you can halve all damage done to you for one turn... Much cheaper then this ever will be. You can also find the Thick Smoke Bomb which offers a one turn version of this effect.

Other Points (no bonus)

Final Thoughts
This item is so good, Thyora should forced to lose more loved ones, get hit with sticks.. teased... you know. Make her cry.

Thyoras Tear defends against all icons and can be used once a battle. Obviously this item qualifies for a 10/10.

The cost is steep, but for the battler that has completed a full Hidden Tower level set, (with Leaded Elemental Vial if applicable) this is a nice choice for the next step up.

In terms of 1-Player, a strong attack weapon can allow for easy full-HP wins against weak challengers.

In terms of both 1-Player and 2-Player, this item essentially represents a "free shot" against the opponent. Thyoras Tear offers peace of mind, allowing the user to Berserk Attack the opponent with his/her second weapon without fear of taking massive damage in return. Thyoras Tear gives a huge advantage to battlers facing those without a Thyoras Tear or Thick Smoke Bomb equipped. (Thyoras Tear can be equipped with a Thick Smoke Bomb for the record.)

There is not a lot to say about this weapon, since anyone who knows anything about the Battledome can understand how awesome a weapon that blocks everything can be. This is one of those weapons that is simply a no-brainer to give a 10 out of 10. In my book there is a right way and a wrong way to use T-Tear, but I will have to cover that another day in a strategy article. :)
