Split icon defenses such as this have became increasingly less threatening, this particular item is easily blocked by certain common blockers such as the {{Wanders Cloak}} or Tower Shield.

Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades
Purely on name alone I would say the alternative is Weapon Formerly Known As Desert Axe Weapon, but I wouldn't suggest you purchase it. Go for a Carved Qasalan Blowgun as an upgrade or choose an item which does more icons such as the Scroll of the Fool

As someone who collects Neggs, shooting them with a crossbow to "collect" them sounds like the worst possible idea one could have.
