Price/Power (5/5)
Price has dropped dramatically since the below were written, now it is just a solid choice in defense for someone who doesn't want to go with a percentage blocker from the tower.

Countermeasures (3/5)
Honestly, with this range we will see bits and pieces taken out of them. Its broad reaching icons help. Problem is, they don't really do much in 1P; but besides that woo.

Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades
Any of the other decently rated high icon blockers like the Wanderers Cloak, Kiko Skull Pirate Hat etc work.

Other Points (2 Bonus)
To make up for all the other reviews saying it is a bit too expensive.

Final Thoughts
And there we go.

Sophies Magic Hat is a nice shield for low-end battling, and it is often the first unbuyable shield on the sequential progression towards upper-tier defensive items.

Did I this weapon is unbuyable? Sophies Magic Hat is worthwhile at a price of 150k-200k, but past that funds are often better spent elsewhere. Due to Sophie Magic Hat's popularity, it can often inflate to a much higher price tag during war times. Keep these words in mind while reading this review; Sophies Magic Hat diminishes in usefulness when its price increases. Bolster another area of your set if Sophies Magic Hat is selling for any more than 250k.

This weapon can block up to 14 icons, 3 each of Fire, Dark, and Physical, and a nice 5 of Earth. A good base point for Sophies Magic Hat would be Leaf Shield, which is significantly cheaper and offers the same Earth and Physical protection. Instead of a bit of Dark and Fire defense, Leaf Shield covers Water icons instead. When comparing the price disparity of the two weapons, Sophies Magic Hat seems underwhelming considering their similarities. Still, plenty of situations arise where Sophies Magic Hat can come in handy.

Sophies Magic Hat offers modest protection against four icon types, but only offers powerful defense against Earth icons. This fact means that Sophies Magic Hat is best put to use against soft-but-varied 1-Player opponents; heavy hitters will trample this weapon.

Sophies Magic Hat will handle low-end 2-Player weapons like Scroll of the Fool, Rusty Pitchfork, Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer, Rusty Cleaver, and Wraith Scroll. Blocking four of seven icon types means ...

Price/power (3/5): This costs quite a bit, but can be a worthwhile investment. Not many shield at this level offer such good defense.

Tactical (4/5): It covers 4 icon types, making it one of those full armour alternatives. This one blocks 5 earth icons though, which is a step up from the usual 3. Fire and dark are usually handled with different weapons (Scarab Ring and Golden Compass/Hanso Charisma Charm), so you could either look at other shields or combine them for more blocking power.

Bonus (1/1): An affordable alternative to those full armours is always nice, and it's even better when it's more powerful than what you'd expect.

Closing remarks: While it's a bit overpriced, it's definitely one of the best shields at this level. Since I do mostly 1P, I keep multiple shields on rotation, this being one of them. While you're at it, check out Studded Leather Cuirass, Leaf Shield, Shiny Shoal Shell Shield, Blue Draping Cloak, Royal Blue Cape, and Wanderers Cloak as well.
