Ratings - Shiny Shoal Shell Shield
Rating: | Price/Power (2/5) There are too many other options for me to still say this is worth it. This weapon is a lie in its numbers, and that counts. Countermeasures (2/5) This is its own countermeasure- you are wasting using a better attacker by using this defender. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades Honestly I don't like non-percentage defenders these days, but the price isn't there. Kiko Skull Pirate Hat is one better option that is slightly more expensive. Other Points Final Thoughts The shine of this shield is slightly diminished by the fact it isn't nearly as good as it was on release. Rated on June 1, 2024 |
Rating: | Value 2/3: This weapon is affordable, but for what it does the cost isn't exceptional. Tactical 4/6: This weapon tags some of the most common icons in low level battling, but it doesn't cover any of them exceptionally well. Parchment Cloak outshines the air defense of this weapon, while the Leaf Shield outshines it's water, earth, and physical. This combines those icons in one weapon, but such small values that even when used to maximal effectiveness this is unlikely to put you ahead. It gets 4 points anyway because the combination of water/air/earth/physical are all very common at this level. Other 0/1: Fractional icons oversell this weapon. It isn't as good as it looks initially, and in the age of buyable 11-iconers a 8.310.7 blocking shield is unimpressive. Conclusion: The low-tier defensive jack of all trades is, unfortunately, a master of none. Rated on September 7, 2013 |
Rating: | Shiny Shoal Shell Shield is an Underwater Fishing prize that at first glance appears to offer a strong defense at a low price. Unfortunately, neither the strong defense nor the low price seems to hold true these days. At the time of review, this shield runs for over 60,000NP on the Shop Wizard. This is a far cry from the under-10k price tag from years past. My only guess for why this weapon's price has spiked so much may be due to older weapon guides this listing this shield as a viable cheap option - continually bolstering its popularity. However, I doubt a more modern guide would list this shield given its present-day price; there are simply better options that I will list later in the review. Shiny Shoal Shell Shield is heavily fractional. This shield offers roughly 2.714 icons of Water, Earth, and Air defense. Shiny Shoal Shell Shield also provides a variable amount of physical defense ranging from .271 to 2.714 icons. What at first glance appears to be 10 to 12 icons of potential defense is actually a mere 8.429 to 10.857 icons. For the price of 60k, this is not a lot of defense. Remember that beginner weapons like Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer and Scroll of Ultranova start out at no fewer than 9 icons these days; this fact means that Shiny Shoal Shell Shield is just barely competitive in today's beginner environment. The good news is that the icon types that Shiny Shoal Shell Shield blocks are very common - Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer, Blunted Qasalan Gladius Sword, Throwing Cutlass, Ice Club, and Rainbow Scroll among others are mangled by this shield. Rating: | Price/power (4/5): This is currently more expensive than Studded Leather Cuirass but cheaper than Leaf Shield. Compared to alternative full armour-like shields, this isn't bad at all. Tactical (4/5): Blocks some of the most common icons out there, though icons are fractional. Physical is also random so that could be a problem too. Still, it's likely to block something every turn and it kills the likes of Stone Club, Ice Club, and Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer. Other 9-iconers such as Rainbow Scroll and Psellias Fighting Fan will be reduced to 3 icons. Bonus (1/1): We need more alternatives to those full armours, with every possible combination. Closing remarks: Along with Leaf Shield and Studded Leather Cuirass, this will remain useful for quite a long time. More powerful shields such as Sophies Magic Hat and Wanderers Cloak cost a lot more. Rated on December 9, 2012 |
