Rating: | Price/Power (5/5) 14 icons isn't a bad start; It's up there with some really good weapons in that regard; but i have some issues. Right now it is being held up purely by its price, as far as value for money goes it is great. Countermeasures (2/5) Where it falls down is its reliance on one icon type, easily blocked; it also doesn't have the special effects that some other items at this level of attack like the Roxtons Trusty Bowie Knife or the extra attack icons of the Void Blade. Hell i'd prefer the Magic Gridlock Gun over this due to the icons alone. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades The items above for sure- but- right now the Void Needle really is cheap enough to make up for its own shortcomings. If that changes, well that is different; if this is around 300k+ or so when you are going to buy it, ignore this and buy something else instead. Rating: | Power (2/4): This trumps The Omelette Sceptre as the best and most accessible beginner weapon at the time of writing, which is saying much! Price (4/4): It being at such a low price is awesome, and as long as it is noticeably cheaper than the 15 icon weapons, it should be a no-brainer for anyone dipping their toes in the battledome. Other (2/2): Even though every moment of power creep in the BD makes things complicated to recommend as we have to retroactively ensure that reviews are kept up to date, I am always happy to see it. On an unrelated note, I find it hilarious that a needle ends up being way better than a Void Dagger and almost as good as a Void Blade. Alternatives: There's really no sidegrade to this weapon but, just in case it ever reaches a price tag where it is not worth recommending it anymore, make sure to look into 13 iconers like Poisonous Mushroom Tea to fill that gap. Upgrades include 15 iconers like Roxtons Trusty Bowie Knife and Bowling Ball of Lost Cities (you might be surprised on how big of a difference an extra icon can make when calculating thresholds for intermediate opponents!). Rating: | Overview: Okay, this is getting kind of ridiculous. We're getting 14 iconers handed out en masse for free? How far are we gonna push the envelope? When are we gonna start getting Anagram Sword level weapons for the same price as an omelette? Okay, fine. You guys didn't come here for a rant about the state of the battledome and the hazard to its health that this rapid icon inflation poses; you came here for a weapon review. Accessibility: 4/4 Like you heard me ranting about, this weapon is extremely cheap. As of this writing, it's only a little over 1k on average, and I don't expect that price to rise much any time soon. Viability: 4/5 14 icons at this stage is absolutely ridiculous. That's more powerful than the Bundle of Burning Birch Branches, the Poisonous Mushroom Tea, and all the other weapons that were considered the standard for starter weapons. If it weren't for the icons being fairly easy to block by most defensive weapons at a stage before Lens Flare renders all defensive weapons pointless, this could've hit a perfect score. Alternatives: Really, all I can suggest is The Omelette Sceptre. It hits for one less icon, but uses mass fire, and also has multi-heal. Everything else kinda pales in comparison. Bonus points: None provided. Final notes: This weapon honestly worries me. We might eventually get to the point that we have to cut loadout stages into fewer categories, and people will get lategame loadouts before they even leave the Swashbuckler's Academy.
