Ratings - Scroll of the Fool
Rating: | This is one of a series of reviews meant to tank the scores of a number of weapons that are just way too high up on the Top Weapons list. The rating is tough on purpose - it's meant to impact the average. On one hand, it's nowhere near as expensive as it used to be, because 10 icons just isn't what it used to be. You can get two 9.8 icon Scroll of Ultranova for the price of one of these (with some cash to spare) unless we somehow find ourselves in the middle of another Charity Corner that gives out r99s. There isn't really a point in upgrading from them to this - you'd be better off just upgrading straight to a Poisonous Mushroom Tea, Turned Tooth, or something similar. In short, as of 2021, you could do a lot worse than this, but you could also do a lot better. Rated on November 4, 2021 |
Rating: | Value 2/3: This weapon has a fair asking price for the damage it does. It's not an absolute steal, but anything below 100k is pretty affordable to just almost all Neopians. Tactical 5/6: The icon spread combining dark, fire, and air is great. However, the physical icons are easily blocked, and between fire, air, and dark, many shields will knock off at least some of this. Scarab Ring breaks even with this weapon and has fire + physical defense to spare. Other 0/1: Nothing too special here folks. This is a good weapon. It's worth having one in your arsenal if you're beginning to battle. But it's not that special. I'd sooner see new players save their NP for training or a Scroll of Knowledge and just pick up a couple cheap Scroll of Ultranovas in the meantime. Rated on October 16, 2013 |
Rating: | Overview: If the Scroll of the Wise got a makeover with a better icon spread, shouldn't this be called the Scroll of the Wiser? The Good: Like its counterpart, the Scroll of the Wise, this scroll deals 10 icons that don't suffer from any "fractionality". On top of that, I feel like the icons here, save for the two physical, are more difficult to block than the fool's twin scroll. The Bad: You're left with a big spread of icons if you pull this out in battle. I don't like big spread weapons because they're easy to beat with a dual duty, and it takes the difficulty away from your opponent. If you wield alongside Scroll of Knowledge, Scroll of the Scholar, or Scroll of the Wise, your setup can be beaten with just about any combination of two dual duty weapons, since you'll be dealing every single icon type. The Ugly Truth: I can't help but give this a good rating because it's cheap for a 10-icon weapon. But really if you've got the neopoints, you should look to try and use less icon types in a given turn. For 1-player battles, you might as well grab it, because it's cheap and good. Rating: Rating History ▼ | Price/Power (1/5) This is currently the "cheap scroll". Much like most of the brightvale scrolls this one too is very powerful. Until the average icon amount goes above the 10-11 icon level these scrolls will be decent. ... It did. It did go above... so far above... Countermeasures (1/5) As with most of these scrolls they normally have at least one item that can fully take them down. The one in this case is the Tower Shield... Luckily given the price you are unlikely to run into one often, so that makes this scroll more valuable in 2P. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades This is the step down from the 13 iconer plot weapons. A Scroll of Knowledge may be better during one player then this, however given the extra cost it would be worth just keeping this one and using it to win a proper weapon. Other Points (No Bonus) Final Thoughts Gotta love that reverse psychology description! Rated on September 29, 2013. Updated February 2, 2023 |
Rating: | At the time of this review, Scroll of the Fool is one of the newer additions to the Scroll family of weapons. The scroll has been around long enough for the price to be somewhat stabilized at a price just under 10k. 10 icons is a strong showing for a weapon obtainable off the Shop Wizard, but remember that the Scroll of Ultranova is also available for under 100NP. Scroll of Ultranova deals 9.8 icons, just a bit less than the Scroll of the Fool. Scroll of Ultranova attacks with three different icon types. Scroll of the Fool attacks with four different icon types. The more icon types a weapon utilizes, the greater the chance that it will be partially blocked. This means that generally speaking, Scroll of Ultranova is slightly more difficult to counter than Scroll of the Fool. Scroll of Ultranova will fare better against Golden Compass, Scarab Ring, Leaf Shield by slight margins. Scroll of the Fool will perform better against Light-blocking Dual Duties and Wanderers Cloak. Either can outperform the other in a specific scenario, but Scroll of Ultranova is obtainable at a fraction of the price. The primary downside to Scroll of the Fool is its scattered offense, just like Scroll of Knowledge. Scroll of Ultranova seems more practical, but Scroll of the Fool is not a bad option as a second or third offensive weapon for new battlers. Rated on July 19, 2013. Updated February 2, 2023 |
Rating: | Price/power (5/5): As cheap as the Scroll of the Scholar and about half as expensive as the similar Scroll of the Wise. Tactical (5/5): This is actually a very powerful combination of icons. Few if any shields at this level can block this completely. Most would actually let quite a lot of icons through. The Scarab Ring will break even and the Golden Compass will come out on top by 2 icons. Bonus (0/1): If you're using this scroll, you're no fool. Closing remarks: This is actually slightly better than the Scroll of the Scholar because it doesn't have such a wide spread. Now that the Scroll of Knowledge is much more expensive than it used to be, this will be seen a lot more often. Rated on April 30, 2013. Updated February 2, 2023 |
