Ratings - Underwater Oven Gloves
Rating: | Price/Power (2/5) A 5 icon bulk defense of water can be handy depending on how much is being used, adding in the dark it is not too bad at all considering the rising popularity of the Scroll of Knowledge and Scroll of the Scholar. Countermeasures (2/5) This can hold back a fair amount of the scrolls above when the scrolls are dual wielded, and chips away at other popular cheap attackers. While there are few items which will need a full 5 icon block, it is handy to have the option. Alternatives, Upgrades or Downgrades This is really a younger (and much cheaper) brother to the Leaf Shield. Upgrading to it would make sense, or moving to one of the more spread out blockers. If you are facing an opponent that uses water AND physical, you may look into the Flaming Bronze Helm instead. Other Points (1 Bonus) Being an advent item this should be cheap for a long long time. Final Thoughts I like this item. When I realised it was so similar to another advent item I liked the idea of a bunch of them as a set. Rated on December 27, 2012 |
Rating: | Price/power (5/5): At the time of writing, this costs 1 NP and will remain extremely cheap for a very long time. For a weapon that blocks 7 icons, this is impressive. Tactical (2/5): Unlike the Flaming Oven Gloves from Y4, very few weapons attack with both water and dark, though Scarab Ring is a notable example. King Kelpbeards Blessing is another weapon that's almost completely killed by this pair of gloves, though nothing worth using can be fully blocked by this. Still, it could take a chunk out of water-based attacks. Bonus (1/1): It's good to see tributes to classic weapons. Then again, I've yet to see anyone with a Billion Degree Sword... Closing remarks: This isn't bad for a newbie weapon, but there are definitely better options out there. The only unbeatable thing, though, is the price. Upgrade to a Leaf Shield, Shiny Shoal Shell Shield, or Studded Leather Cuirass when you outgrow this (which shouldn't take long). Rated on December 15, 2012 |
Rating: | I must say that I enjoy the fact that they made a new Advent Calendar weapon based on an older Advent Calendar weapon. Despite the fact I gave Flaming Oven Gloves a half-decent rating, I simply cannot give that same rating to Underwater Oven Gloves. The allure of Flaming Oven Gloves comes from the toughness of finding cheap, strong Fire defense. Both pairs of gloves only block 7 total icons, which is far from impressive, meaning the strong point is the 5 icons of a single type. Blocking 5 Water is simply not as rare as blocking 5 Fire. Although the cheapness of Underwater Oven Gloves cannot be beat, strong Water defense in the form of the more powerful Leaf Shield is not that expensive. The 2 icons of Dark defense are not much; they are more of a compliment to the Water defense. The Fire and Light combo of Flaming Oven Gloves is nice because the two often come together, but the same cannot be said about Dark and Water. Underwater Oven Gloves was a cool idea, but these gloves are not very practical in the Battledome. Unlike Flaming Oven Gloves, these gloves do not fill a special niche area of defense. Stick to stronger offensive or defensive weaponry. Rated on December 15, 2012 |
