Ratings - Lair Beast Tooth Shield
Rating: | This weapon will only be rated for Regular 1P/2P use, since it doesn't have any niche or league use. Price(0/3): Completely worthless. Any neopoint spent on this item would be a waste. While the amount of neopoints isn't insane, it might as well be for this item. Power(0/5): The amount of icons this shield defends against is way too low, wasting a slot in today's battledome when you could attack more instead. Uniqueness(0/2): Most shields tend to defend icons in such low amounts that it's not worth it to use them over any weapon. This isn't the exception. Overall it's just your average underpowered, useless item. Nothing worth checking out here. Because of that its final rating is 0/10. I can't give a rating of 0 however, so it gets a shameful 1 instead. Rated on July 31, 2021 |
Rating: | It looks kind of cool, and for a bottom tier shield you could do worse, but this not worth adding to your set you can do better for less! Rated on April 9, 2020 |
Rating: | A pure shield that blocks only 8 icons can generally be written off as useless, but Lair Beast Tooth Shield is an exception to the rule. Barely. Considering the power of the dirt-cheap beginner weaponry these days, such as Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer (9 icons), Scroll of Ultranova (9.8 icons), and Scroll of the Fool (10 icons), 8 icons of potential defense is essentially obsolete. The best case scenario is that this shield blocks enough icons to reach its maximum potential, coming close to matching the offensive icon output of beginner weapons such as the ones mentioned above. The worst case scenario is any other outcome, in which Lair Beast Tooth Shield is completely run over by superior offensive weapons in the same price range. Still, two factors work in favor of Lair Beast Tooth Shield. First, this shield costs under 1,000NP, meaning any new player can acquire it without effort. Second, this shield is effective against two of the trademark weapons in entry-level battling: Golden Compass and Scroll of Ultranova. For a training school pet, defense boost generally exceeds strength. Considering this fact, Lair Beast Tooth Shield can block slightly more damage, helping it avoid the status of being completely awful. General 2-Player league battling guidelines do not let players train more than a single defense boost over their strength boost, meaning that the enhancement here will be small, albeit enough to push this shield into fringe status. The ultimate scenario is that Lair Beast Tooth Shield will come close to shutting out a Golden Compass or Lair Beast Tooth Shield. Shields are beneficial when ... ▼ Read More ▼ |
Rating: | Price/power (5/5): While the offensive power of low-level weapons has increased significantly over the past couple of years, defense did not receive a similar boost. Thus, a shield like this is still considered very, very cheap for its defensive power. Tactical (3/5): Blocks some very common icons, but unfortunately 8 icons of defense doesn't really cut it anymore. This is mostly due to the insane amount of icon inflation in recent years--the 9-icon era is coming to an end, with weapons such as the Scroll of Ultranova being sold at extremely cheap prices. Only a few 9-iconers (e.g. Golden Compass, Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer) are still considered staples, with the majority being swept aside in favor of newer, more powerful weapons. Bonus (0/1): I wonder whether icon inflation will spread to shields anytime soon. Closing remarks: You'll outgrow this quickly. When you do, get a Shiny Shoal Shell Shield, Studded Leather Cuirass, or any other all-species full armour. Rated on September 30, 2013 |
Rating: | Price/Power (5/5) For this tiny price it offers a pretty solid defense. While the bulk number of icons may be below my threshold, it makes up for it in other ways power wise. Countermeasures (3/5) This can remove a good deal of threat from the Golden Compass, Magma Blaster, Scroll of Ultranova.. The list goes on. With no clear upgrade path to this exact combination of icons I am pretty impressed with what this shield is. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades If you have a Lutari, a Lutari Battle Shield may be a slightly better option if you get stolen from a lot. If not, this shield wins out in most ways. The most clear direct upgrade for this is the Royal Blue Cape, which is right now prohibitively expensive in comparison to this. Other Points (No Bonus) Final Thoughts A pretty solid shield all things considered. Rated on July 4, 2013 |
