Overview: As the predecessor to the ever popular Hanso Charisma Charm, the Ring of the Lost has lost its luster, but is still a decent addition to a well-balanced Battledome set.

The Good: Ring of the Lost is a great complement to the Hubrid Nox Memorial Shield. It blocks out all dark, which means behind the ring and shield combo, a pet is only fully vulnerable to fire. Better yet are the icon types it deals. Fire and Light are decent, and unlike the Charisma Charm, they wont get completely soaked up if the opponents also happens to pull out a Nox Shield. In fact, the Ring of the Lost can get at least half of its icons past all the big shields. This includes Faerie Tabard, Ghostkershield, Shield of Faerieland, and the previously mentioned Hubrid Nox Memorial Shield.

The Bad: If you are just looking for the defense, and are not worried about what can block your dark-blocking-dual-duty, Ring of the Lost is overpriced. The Hanso Charisma charm is approximately 1/6 the price of the Ring, and it deals the same quantity of offense and defense.

The Ugly Truth: Honestly, I'll probably eventually upgrade my Hanso Charisma Charm to a Ring of the Lost once I get the rest of my own Battledome set squared away. The Ring is worth the upgrade just for the added difficulty in your opponent blocking all the icons it deals. However, it's expensive and excessive, so only after your set is more or less complete should you consider the upgrade from the Charisma Charm.

Price/Power (1/5)
When released this item quickly became the staple dark weapon, which increased the cost hugely over time. While this is still a powerful item with a good blast and awesome blocking potential it is too expensive.

Countermeasures (5/5)
Cut down a bit by the Lair Beast Tooth Shield and the Wanderers Cloak but otherwise pretty hard to block fully. Offers an awesome 100% block to add on to this pretty decent icon combination.

Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades
Given the price of the Hanso Charisma Charm which is not only cheaper but does around .5 icons more? Certainly stick to that. But if you have this already I would suggest using it instead as the harder to block nature of the attack is pretty nice.

Other Points (No Bonus)
Too high to give a retired bonus for .

Final Thoughts
It sure was a bad day for a lot of collectors when this ring LOST it's place in the battledome! Ey, ey? EY? *nudge nudge* Oh, you're no fun.

Party pooper.

At a Glance (2/3):
Attacks with 5 fire and 4.5 light, while blocking 100% dark. Not a shabby dual duty weapon, even after these years.

In-Depth (3/4):
While 9.5 icons isn't too particularly strong (the cheaper Scroll of Knowledge sets today's icon standard at 11 icons), it only consists of two icon elements. Dual elemental weapons I find can be incredibly hard to counter, because they're too strong for shields, but can't be easily reflected by one reflector. Ring of the lost is a good example of this because there aren't any strong defenders (aside from Flaming Oven Gloves and Twisted Dark Dagger) that stop both fire AND light. You'd need to either use a stronger dual duty (there are many dual duties for light), use two weapons to stop RotL, or deal with the unblocked damage and worry about your opponent's other weapon, which can very well use fire/light to stack ontop of this weapon (like Sword of Reif and Flask of Liquid Fire and the faerie ability "Sear" for fire, Sword of Thigl and Flask of Liquid Light and the "Static Cling" ability for light). You will find this weapon to be relatively safe to use.

As for its defense, it fully blocks dark damage. This cuts down many weapons that depend on dark, such as Ramtors Spellbook, {{Dark Faerie Collar}} Sword of Skardsen, Ring of the Sway, Jittery Jipple Pear Potion, and Jhudoras Potion. It also contends with Wand of the Dark Faerie, Jhudoras Wand, Sroom Fruit Potion, and Jhudoras Bewitched Ring. You will find the defense to be useful for a variety of weapons, not just these listed here.
