Ratings - Clawed Shield
This weapon will have 2 ratings, a L97 one, and a regular use one. The final rating will be an average of those two.

For league 97:
Price (0/3): At its current price you'd be much better with anything else. It's worth more than the weapons it'd most likely be used against.
Power (3/5):
Uniqueness (1/2): There's another weapon that's cheaper and with a better average, called Flame Reflectozap.

Overall It's not worth it anymore. If you have it you can keep it, but if not then it's better to get a Flame Reflectozap instead. For that it gets a 4/10

For regular use:
Price (0/3): It's basically worth almost as much as a sword of reif. That's way too much for what it does
Power (3/5): 61-80 reflection is good, specially considering that it's for such a hard to block type, but it's definitely not the best, and for that price it should be.
Uniqueness (1/2): Flame Reflectozap Has a bigger average and half the price. What else is there to say?

Overall just get a Flame Reflectozap. Even then, reflection isn't that good in general when you consider that you only have a 1 in 6 chance to get the correct type. For that it gets a 4/10

Because of that, the Average review is 4/10. It's usable, but there's a better option now, and reflectors aren't nearly as good as other weapons.

Value 1/3: This was a good deal when it was first released, it still held a reasonable price tag even after rising in price to a few million, but now it costs as much or more than the weapon (Sword of Reif) people buy it to counter.

Tactical 4/6: The clawed shield defends against the Sword of Reif very well. Depending on how much it reflects, it might allow you to come out ahead, and will at least break even much of the time. However, what does it take to beat this weapon? 3 constants. That's it. If your opponent can rotate 3 high-damage constants and if you don't absolutely know that they are going to use mass fire in their next turn, this weapon loses most of its utility. You would probably find better general defense in the Faerie Tabard which has some stopping power for fire and completely stops water.

This weapon might be more useful in L97 fights against the Portable Kiln or other fire-heavy weapons, but even then, your opponent only needs to have a couple backup weapons to make using this shield a risky option.

Other 1.1: Looks great, and fills an important niche (good fire defense). However, the price is not right at the moment due to inflation, and as cool as the idea of reliable fire reflection is, this shield is a little too easy to get around.

Rating History ▼
Price/Power (2/5)
This was once the most cost effective way to block large amounts of fire- now due to alternatives catching up it finally has lost its claws.

Countermeasures (4/5)
A lot of people would be using the Sword of Reif due to the inability to block it as easily as some of the other anagram swords. This not only blocks the brunt of the fire but then also throws it back.

Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades
The Frozen Cyodrake Shield is a 100% blocker for fire, but is a cove item. The R99 Flame Reflectozap however, has finally reached a level where it reflects more than just the tears of the poor to finally claim its throne.

Other Points (No Bonus)

Final Thoughts
I always liked this shield, may buy it one day.
Edit: I did buy this one day.

Power: 5/5
~70% fire reflection is a great thing, however this shield also carries a very unique trait that: it can negate the opponent's freeze.

Counters: 3/3
Like most reflectors this is about timing, timing and again: timing. While you're able to get a big hit in if you throw this against Sword of Reif or other fire heavy weapons, you'll waste a turn if this fails to hit. Either way this is one of the few ways to effectively counter mass fire (the others being Flame Reflectozap and Reflectozap 2000 with 75% and ~90% reflection) and being able to negate your opponent's freeze while still getting your own through just makes this even better.

Uniqueness: 1/1
This is the only item that can negate your opponent's freeze without negating your own (Rainbow Swirly Thing being the only other option which negates both freezes).

Bonus: 1/1
Despite being situational and all this is really useful and it even looks great.

NOTE: Freeze immunity does not currently work in the new Battledome.

At a Glance (2/3):
On average, it reflects ~70% fire back at your opponent, which is a good majority of fire damage. Also blocks 3 dark icons.

In-Depth (3/4):
Instead of breaking even like its weaker counterpart, Turbo Flame Reflector, you will get a lot of leeway with CS. If you predict correctly when your opponent any mass fire-attacking constant (like Portable Kiln, Flask of Liquid Fire, or Sword of Reif), you will win head-to-head (except for the case with FoLF, where you will tie on average). That being said, if your opponent open fires and stacks two on you, their offense will backfire.

The way you use this is just like TFR: predict when your opponent will use SoReif (or two constants with a lot of fire), and use either a constant of your own, or a shield to block the remaining damage. CS+Faerie Tabard therefore is the best at this fire defense if you are sure you'll only be faced with mass fire; it will reflect the majority of damage to the opponent, while the remainder will be absorbed by the shield. More shield combos to consider are CS+Shield of Faerieland and CS+Pirate Captains Hat (be careful about using its semi-fragility!).

The extra dark defense also makes this shield compliment Hubrid Nox Memorial Shield, whose defensive holes are fire and dark damage. However, it is suggested to pack a stronger dark defender such as Hanso Charisma Charm in case your opponent tries to take advantage of the relatively weak defense CS offers.

Price (2/2):
The price jump is huge between TFR and this shield at 2k and ~5m respectively, but it is justified. The 75% alternative reflecto...

Clawed Shield is one of many nice weapons to come from TCG prize codes. Although it may not be the best Fire reflector in the game, it is still very formidable. Clawed Shield is also more easily attainable on the market than Flame Reflectozap and Reflectozap 2000.

Clawed Shield has a variable Fire reflect ranging from 61% to 80%, but no matter where it happens to fall on any given turn, Clawed Shield will reflect back more Fire icons than it fails to reflect. In addition, Clawed Shield blocks 3 Dark icons as a bit of a bonus.

Full Fire defense is not particularly practical. Rod of Dark Nova is unreasonably expensive for most battlers. Slippery Floor Potion is only a single use. Frozen Cyodrake Shield lacks desirable defense past its full Fire block. As a result, Fire reflector easily claim center-stage in the Fire-blocking department. After all, unlike shields, reflectors provide the user with the opportunity to jump out in front of the opponent as opposed to simply deadening the attack. In particular, Fire defense comes in handy against two weapons: Sword of Reif and Portable Kiln

Sword of Reif is arguably the most popular Anagram Sword thanks to its difficulty to block. Clawed Shield forces Sword of Reif users to rethink how comfortable they feel about using Fire icons.

Portable Kiln may not be popular for general use in the modern day, but it is a prime choice for the L97 format. The mono-icon power of Portable Kiln makes it exceptionally useful in a format built around shields and Dual Duties. Faerie Tabard may do a respectable job against Portable Kiln and An...
