Ratings - Flaming Oven Gloves
Rating: Rating History ▼ | Price/Power (3/5) This offers the largest bulk fire blocking short of a full blocker. The fact that it is only 5 icons however should show you just how hard it can be to block fire. Recently the Golden Garfir Helm has reached a more buyable level and may be considered better then this in some instances. Countermeasures (2/5) The problem with this blocker comes in it's actual application, while it does take a large hunk off of weapons like the Electro Sword few items are greatly effected by the fire/light combo to ruin their effectiveness. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades Fire blocking wise, I would suggest a Clawed Shield but that is expensive. The Underwater Oven Gloves offer the same thing but for water and who knows TNT may release another set one day. Another new option is the Golden Garfir Helm, which has recently begun to drop in price dramatically. Other Points (No Bonus) Final Thoughts Solid for an advent item, and still cost effective. Realistically such high heat protection is just what you need for cooking. Rated on July 4, 2013. Updated March 30, 2014 |
Rating: | Price/power (3/5): Not too shabby for 1000 NP or so, but you could get a Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer for 1/10th the price of this. Tactical (4/5): Fire and light often come together, and this is extremely useful for countering these types of attacks. Being able to block 5 of any single type at this level could potentially mean that all icons of said type are blocked. Unlike the Underwater Oven Gloves, this one kills weapons such as Bottled Scorchio Breath and numerous other fire-based weapons. Light defense is a bit lacking, but if your other weapon is good enough, it just might overwhelm your opponent's defense... Bonus (1/1): This is a classic weapon that has withstood the test of time. Closing remarks: Useful for beginners, though you'll quickly grow out of it. Get a Scarab Ring and a Thief Dagger later for fire and light defense, respectively. Oh, and don't forget the likes of Studded Leather Cuirass, Leaf Shield, and {{Shiny Shoal Shell Shield}... Rated on December 15, 2012. Updated March 30, 2014 |
Rating: | After taking a quick look at low cost defensive weaponry, I can tell you one thing: solid Fire defense is tough to come by. If your pet has over 500 Intelligence, it can utilize the extra defense of Red Velvet Cloak, but what about pets that do not meet that Intelligence requirement? Flaming Oven Gloves is the only remaining cheap option to provide a full 5 icons of Fire defense. There are some nice, cheap weapons that block 3 Fire icons, most notably Scarab Ring and Snowager Sword, but Flaming Oven Gloves is the only option for 5 Fire icons of defense. Now despite this, a defense of 5 Fire icons and 2 Light icons for a total of 7 defensive icons is nothing too special, but it looks a lot better when it is the only option. In 2-Player you will be better off using Scarab Ring, Snowager Sword, or just a plain, stronger attack weapon in the face of an opposing Fire attack. However, in 1-Player, where little pets can be pummeled by Fire-and-Light-happy challengers like Flaming Meerca, Kasuki Lu, and others, Flaming Oven Gloves can serve as a pretty nice shield. This weapon is best put to use against these types of 1-Player challengers, which is why I am willing to give this item a half decent rating. :) Out-damaging opposing fire attacks is your best bet, but if that is not working out, it does not hurt to give this cheap weapon a shot.
