Ratings - Energy Blaster
Rating: | This is one of a series of reviews meant to tank the scores of a number of weapons that are just way too high up on the Top Weapons list. Sorry, 10 icons for this price just isn't viable anymore. You wouldn't really want to spend this kind of money on a 10 icon constant when you can get the 13-icon Poisonous Mushroom Tea for a similar price, or the 9.8 icon Scroll of Ultranova for much, much less. As far as 2P goes, I guess this almost has a niche in the 10-icon version of L54, but that 3-icon spread is tough in a format dominated by 10-iconers that do 2 or 1 icon types - you might be better off just using Sun and Moon Chakram or Fiery Battle Duck if you're interested in these icon types just to reduce the different icon types you're doing. I suppose the best niche this could have is if you're roleplaying/character-building your pet, who happens to be some sort of spacefaring type like Ylana Skyfire. I do get asked about this on occasion; this is an underexplored concept, and it's somewhat outside the scope of Battlepedia as it currently stands, but I could see it working out nicely there, since it's pretty cheap... but unless that's what you're going for, I'd pass on this weapon. Rating: Rating History ▼ | Price/Power (2/5) Less impressive than ever with only 10 icons, which is a shame. Countermeasures (2/5) The main downside to this is that light is pretty easily blocked these days thanks to the Parasol of Unfortunate Demise. However the Parasol of Unfortunate Demise can not block the other icon types. Lair Beast Tooth Shield is the best chance to block this. Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades Flask of Liquid Light does more light, but honestly there are many other items that provide more punch that you'll likely get for free, Other Points (No Bonus) Final Thoughts Point away from face. Rating: | At the time of this rating, (December 7, 2012) this weapon is what I would label a hidden gem. I found several of these available on the Shop Wizard for 20k-30k while writing this review. 10 icons for 20k-30k is nice, really nice, when you consider that people are still buying Ramtors Spellbook and Scuzzys Comb off the Trading Post. Energy Blaster deals the same exact 5 Light icons as those two weapons, but instead follows up the Light icons with 3 Fire and 2 Dark. I personally prefer the Fire and Dark combo to the Physical icons of Scuzzys Comb, which can be blocked by most of the popular shields at this level. The 5 Dark of Ramtors Spellbook is nice, but replacing a few of them with Fire icons as in the case of Energy Blaster is not exactly a terrible thing either. Energy Blaster can sneak through many popular shields at this level such as Leaf Shield, Yooyuball Goalie Armour, and Shiny Shoal Shell Shield completely unscathed! This is also one of the few cheap beginner weapons that is Physical-icon-free, which is a big plus in my book. Scroll of Knowledge is another cheap weapon that deals one more icon than this Energy Blaster does, but deals five different icon types, which is a bit too much variation, allowing it to be partially blocked much easier. As long as this weapon remains buyable on the Shop Wizard, I think it is an absolutely great upgrade over the entry-level 9 icon weapons. Rated on December 7, 2012. Updated February 2, 2023 |
