Ratings - Chomby Battle Goggles
Price/Power (0/5)
Only 9 total icons is not enough for a dual duty. You need more to compensate for the weakness

Countermeasures (0/5)
In small numbers fire and darkness are not unmanageable- however in small numbers they are also not scary.

Alternatives Upgrades or Downgrades
Give up on the weak defense and get yourself a Energy Blaster, Scroll of the Fool or Flask of Liquid Fire

Final Thoughts
This is one of the earliest items I remember owning...and never using.

Power/Price (2/5): Six icons is a little weak these days, it being a dual duty and extremely cheap does help but there are several items out there which are not limited by a specific species that are better priced. This is a nice item but it just isn't enough in today's standards. Light defense has also becomes extremely common, especially at the beginner level of play and with Parasol of Unfortunate Demise being so cheap.

Countermeasures (2/5): Dark and fire is a good combination at a low level. The common shields don't really touch this. The issue is that at the low levels of battling, 6 icons isn't a very strong hit, it's hard to block but it's not much to block either.

In 1-Player, this weapon doesn't really shine. There are many harder hitters at lower price points.

In 2-Player, this weapon shines a little more, it does have some tactical advantages because of its icon distribution. Unfortunately it doesn't deal enough.

Alternative: None
Upgrades: Ultimate Negg Hammer, Ancient Gnarled Wand
Downgrades: Any cheap weapon that deals 6 icons or less.

I am giving this weapon a 4/10. The Goggles may be good for beginners but they will outgrow this so quickly that it might be worth just skipping altogether.

Chomby Battle Goggles is not a junk weapon, but its prospects are not thrilling either.

These goggles provide 6 icons of offense in the form of 3 Fire and 3 Dark while defending 3 Light icons. The Dark/Fire attack is a nice combination, but the total icons is a tad weak. Light defense is very common; Light offense is common as well.

The problem with Chomby Battle Goggles is the fact that it is just a bit too weak. Pure offensive weaponry starts out at 9+ icons these days, meaning a 9 total icon Dual Duty will only be able to match opposing weaponry in its best case scenario. Scroll of Ultranova, which deals 9.8 icons, will still beat Chomby Battle Goggles head-to-head despite having its Light icons blocked. Don't forget that any weapon not dealing Light icons will win by a decisive margin.

Ultimate Negg Hammer now enables anyone to own a Light-blocking Dual Duty. This hammer deals 8 icons as opposed to Chomby Battle Goggle's 6 icons. The only true perk to Chomby Battle Goggles is its more favorable offensive icon types. Even new battlers with Chombys may want to pass over this weapon for slightly stronger choices.

Price/power (4/5): Not bad at all for a light-defending dual-duty.

Tactical (4/5): Attack and defense are somewhat lacking, but just fine for beginners. The Parasol of Unfortunate Demise is another good option, but that's a pure shield. You'll outgrow this quickly though; when you do, get the Ultimate Negg Hammer or Amulet of Inevitable Betrayal.

Bonus (1/1): One of the few species weapons that are worth using in this day and age.

Closing remarks: Chombies are lucky here. The rest of us have to pay a lot more for stuff like the Amulet of Inevitable Betrayal, Sword of the Dead, etc. though the Ultimate Negg Hammer isn't too expensive.
